Eric Coon, LMHC (he/him/his)
Licensed Mental Health Counselor
As a licensed counselor specializing in mental health, I am passionate about helping young people. My approach centers on empowering clients by recognizing their inherent strengths and applying a trauma-sensitive framework in therapy. I also value the inclusion of caregivers and additional systems that provide care to the individual to support the generalization of treatment across multiple settings.
I provide outpatient therapy and am trained in a variety of evidence-based treatments, including Parent and Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
As a former foster care provider, I am fluent in the many challenges of raising a child and navigating the various systems of care that can be involved in complex parenting situations. I am also a proud father to a dog who has ambitions of becoming a well-trained therapy dog in the future.
After completing my undergraduate degree at the University of Iowa, I moved to Denver, Colorado. I worked as a case manager in the Developmental Disability field for 10 years before returning to obtain my Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and Community Mental Health Counseling from Argosy University in Denver.
I continued working in nonprofits and community mental health settings in Denver before coming back to Iowa to be closer to my growing extended family.
I joined Magnolia Connection in February 2024 and provide services in the Norwalk office.
